Heel pain is one of the most common problems brought to our office. It is regularly caused by a condition called plantar fasciitis. The plantar fascia is a band of tissue that runs from the front to the back of the foot. When the plantar fascia is inflamed and irritated it causes severe heel pain.
Although plantar fasciitis is one of the main causes of heel pain it can commonly occur from stress fractures, tendonitis, arthritis, and nerve irritation. It is incredibly important for someone experiencing heel pain to be evaluated by a professional because there are so many different causes; many being severe.
Plantar fasciitis is often caused by the structure of the foot. High arches, flat feet, and other arch problems are often the cause. In our offices we provide custom made orthotics and a cheaper over the counter orthotic. Orthotics help to alter and modify the way that you walk, which can help to treat a variety of different foot, ankle, knee, and hip problems.
Symptoms of plantar fasciitis are pain on the bottom of the heel, pain that is worse during your first steps of the morning, and increasing pain over a period of a few months.
Often times there is a simple fix to your pain. Sometimes stretching exercises can be the quick fix for this problem. It is important to see a podiatrist to understand these exercises because they can be catered to your exact problem. Shoes can sometimes be the culprit of your pain. Many cheaper shoes do not give your arches and heels the support that is needed. In our offices we have a shoe store that has over 250 styles of shoes that are supportive, can accommodate orthotics and any other bracing comfortably, or any deformities in the foot. The store has sneakers, women's shoes, boots, men's dress shoes, diabetic shoes, etc.
